I know a lot of people have rules about leaving comments and such but I don't mind. As long as you're kind feel free to say whatever you want on my posts. I'm not easy to offend.
I'm mostly going to use dreamwidth to talk about twilight endlessly and to talk about my day. If you're curious about me at all feel free to shoot me a message.
I'll update this as necessary.

I also was thinking of adding this to my icons.
One Hour One Life
I paid for and downloaded and paid for the game One Hour One Life. It was pretty fun but also frustrating. The premise is that you are born to another player and given one hour to live. Each minute in the real world equals one year in the game. So you must learn skills relatively quickly. If you are born female, you'll randomly give birth to a child or two and must care for them. The game was fun, but after playing for one hour I was done with it. I felt like a burden since I didn't know how to make any tools or how to provide for a baby when the mom abandoned it. Ever since I lost all my Sims saves I've lost interest in gaming altogether. Which is good since it forces me to focus on other things.
Works been good. I feel like I'm not overwhelmed and I know what I'm doing. There wasn't even any need to "fake it til I make it" since I pretty much got it right away. My mom warned me that I wouldn't know what I was doing for the first six months, but I'm coming up on seven months of working at this agency and I felt fine the whole time. Everything is going great with work... the pay could be higher but that's just my opinion.
The new manager is leaving
The reason I wasn't hired to begin with is because I said I wouldn't teach nature classes 1) because I'm not qualified but 2) because it makes no sense. Since covid they've decided to make this a full-time job and have managers start teaching classes while working. That seems absolutely ridiculous to me because as a manager, they will be busy. Whenever that has happened, they've had to rely on me to take on the manager role and deal with patron complaints, event set up, etc. when that's the manager's job.
Dracula Daily
Anyway, hope everyone is doing well today! I'm still waiting to hear back from the job I applied for. I know it's memorial day weekend so I'll wait until Tuesday to bother them.
More Masks!
Anyway, I'm going to keep wearing my mask for a long time. I hope masks stay required on airplanes because people are gross. Maybe we should've been following the Asians the whole time.
Head Hopping
I love Doctor Who. Please link me to some fic recs if you have any.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and would definitely read more sequels if they ever appear even if Nick and Rachel's story is pretty much over.
Book Club(s) Plural
But this month at the Holocaust museum I work at we decided to read Anne Frank's diary since her birthday is June 12th. If she had lived she would be turning 92. And we had a special guest, someone who is second cousins with Anne Frank. She explained her side of the family (Edith Frank's side AKA Anne's mother) and how their side was able to escape to Peru and the United States. On the Frank House's website it says they tried to escape to the US but Edith's brother was only allowed to take one person. That's why they went to the Netherlands. Also this lady was about 91 years old and so sweet and cute. I was surprised how well she was using zoom and moving around the room to grab pictures. She showed us the picture of Anne Frank's wedding and pointed out her parents for us. All around, very informative and interesting life story. I wish I had better questions for her.
I had a chance to re-read Anne Frank's diary as an adult which was really nice. I was able to relate more to Anne's mother and older sister and was better able to understand their perspectives. Anne's worldview was really small and she and her mother often butted heads and as an eighth grader reading this I completely related to Anne. I didn't even consider how the mom was feeling in that situation and how stressed she'd be. I also felt bad for Margot having to share her room with her parents and becoming reserved. I wish Margot Frank's diary had been recovered so we could see her perspective on the exact same situation from an older teenage perspective.
Twilight Charity Fanzine
I want to thank everyone who donated to the Move to Higher Ground Project in order to receive the Higher Ground Twilght Fanzine. We raised over $200 and I'm so happy. For everyone who didn't get a chance to donate due to low funds, we decided to make the zine free!
If you are capable of donating, please do so. The Move to Higher Ground Project is very important. Stephenie Meyer used elements of the real Quileute legends and traditions while creating the Twilight Saga and has not publicly donated to their cause. Right now, the entire community is in an unsafe area prone to flooding and natural disasters. They are currently trying to raise money to move to a safer area and their first priority is moving their school. Without the school, many of their traditions would be lost since it is the only school in the world teaching the Quileute language. This is the link leading you directly to their donation page: https://mthg.org/get-involved/
To get access to the zine here is the link. Feel free to share this link with any friends or fellow Twilight fans and encourage others to donate to the MTHG Project.
Crazy Rich Asians (Book 1)
Not to say that the books are bad, but they definitely fall into the paperback romance category. The book is also a lot more sexual and has a lot of mention of Nick's abs and his amazing "love-making skills." It's probably because they didn't want any older people watching to feel offended and I think it made the whole Cinderella vibe of the book come to life better in the film. The book is way more entertaining and shock-filled than the film though.
China Rich Girlfriend (Book 2)
Now, Crazy Rich Asians hasn't released its planned sequel yet, but after reading China Rich Girlfriend I'm really looking forward to it. The book still has Nick and Rachel, but it also focuses on who was previously a side character, Kitty Pong. Kitty was an interesting character from the beginning because she clearly did not belong in the rich elite world. She represented the fear that the rich have of the gold-digging, uncouth future wife they thought Rachel would be. Kitty is given a lot more depth and becomes way more sympathetic and I enjoyed her arc.
I'll probably read the final book in the trilogy next month after I've finished my finals. It's one of those books you can't put down once you've picked it up.
Laptop Troubles
I recently applied to a new job as a parole officer for minors in my county. Everyone thinks it's a bad idea but it's salaried and they said they would train me on the spot. I'm tired of not making any money. It's incredibly frustrating.
Anyway, I mostly made this post in case y'all were wondering where I've gone: Nowhere. I just have a busted laptop (again!)
Haven't been reading any Twilight books lately since I haven't really been in the mood. I started reading How to Be Antiracist by Kendi Ibram X. It's really good so far. I had my reservations on the first few chapters, but he makes excellent points and managed to change my perspective. I think those first few chapters are to disarm white readers into giving the book a shot, but the points made are valid and hold weight. I'm more than half way finished. This is my first real audio book (My first one was the audiobook was the last book in the Series of Unfortunate Events books.)
I don't think I'm going to become a regular audiobook listener. I run into the same problem I have with podcasts: I stop paying attention. Reading the words on the page is more intimate and important to me. I like to imagine the characters' inflections and emotions behind their words. But this book is nonfiction and read in the author's own voice so it feels more authentic this way.
Speaking of, I think I converted another person to get on the Libby app. While I was volunteering at the Holocaust museum another volunteer named Rhonda was talking to me about how often she reads audiobooks and that she buys a lot of books from Audible. I let her know that I exclusively read books for free either pirated or from the library and told her about Libby and that she only needs a library card to listen to them. She seemed really excited about it since with Audible you get one book a month included in your $8 monthly charge and you have to purchase all other books. That seems extremely wack, especially for someone like Rhonda who goes through audiobooks quickly. I myself didn't think two weeks was enough to get through this book I'm reading but I'm almost finished with five days to spare.
Anyway, I hope all of you are utilizing the library and slowly taking apart Amaz*n brick by brick with me.
Volunteering
Before I got the official acceptance email I had to do two zoom calls as a group with the other potential volunteers and that was about two and a half weeks ago? I was so nervous that they didn't want me as a volunteer anymore that I started persistently and (I'm sure) annoyingly pestering them all day. I'm glad to be on the volunteer team anyway.
Speaking of good deeds if you have any spare cash consider donating to the Quileute People's Move to Higher Ground Project. Right now the Quileute' houses and elementary school are in a major tsunami and flood zone. And if you're interested in a Twilight zine, I helped organize the unofficial Higher Ground zine. If you want a copy, all you need to do is send proof that you donated to the Move to Higher Ground project. You can read more about it on the tumblr page.
Doctor Who Wibbly Wobbly Stuff
I was originally going to watch in order but I'm not a huge fan of David Tennant as the doctor or Donna Noble. I think they're good, but they're not my favorites by any means. I mostly just want to cry my eyes out whenever the doctor regenerates. Why am I watching Doctor Who again after all these years? I think I just needed a break from Twilight nonsense.
Happy Pi Day
Work has been crazy. The next two weeks are going to be so hectic and I can't wait.
I sent out physical copies of the zine to the participants as a thank you for their participation and the international ones haven't cleared customs yet, which makes sense. I have this irrational fear that they're all going to get lost and I'll have to reship all of them. Australia's customs system eludes me.
Johnny Depp and Coffee Apps
Anyway, if you're on mobile here it is. It'll still work on desktop but it'll be sad looking.
( Spoilers for seasons 1-3 of Westworld ) Anyway, I'm definitely going to have to incorporate elements of Westworld in a Twilight fic sometime.
