I'm vaccinated fully now! I just have to wait two weeks for it to really kick in. I'll feel more comfortable taking public transport in the next few weeks. I recently got a student discount bus pass so now all my rides are $0.60; I'm saving the planet one train ride at a time.

Haven't been reading any Twilight books lately since I haven't really been in the mood. I started reading How to Be Antiracist by Kendi Ibram X. It's really good so far. I had my reservations on the first few chapters, but he makes excellent points and managed to change my perspective. I think those first few chapters are to disarm white readers into giving the book a shot, but the points made are valid and hold weight. I'm more than half way finished. This is my first real audio book (My first one was the audiobook was the last book in the Series of Unfortunate Events books.)

I don't think I'm going to become a regular audiobook listener. I run into the same problem I have with podcasts: I stop paying attention. Reading the words on the page is more intimate and important to me. I like to imagine the characters' inflections and emotions behind their words. But this book is nonfiction and read in the author's own voice so it feels more authentic this way.

Speaking of, I think I converted another person to get on the Libby app. While I was volunteering at the Holocaust museum another volunteer named Rhonda was talking to me about how often she reads audiobooks and that she buys a lot of books from Audible. I let her know that I exclusively read books for free either pirated or from the library and told her about Libby and that she only needs a library card to listen to them. She seemed really excited about it since with Audible you get one book a month included in your $8 monthly charge and you have to purchase all other books. That seems extremely wack, especially for someone like Rhonda who goes through audiobooks quickly. I myself didn't think two weeks was enough to get through this book I'm reading but I'm almost finished with five days to spare.

Anyway, I hope all of you are utilizing the library and slowly taking apart Amaz*n brick by brick with me.

Congratulations on your vaccination!

I also can't really listen to audiobooks: I read very fast (last I checked I clocked at least 100 words/minute higher than the average) and hearing someone read the book to me is very frustrating because they're too slow and I tend to jump around the page sometimes.

On the other hand, while I do have phases when I'll listen to podcasts often and when I won't listen at all, I generally don't have a problem with them. Maybe it's what I listen to: audio dramas and interviews/conversations mostly; maybe it's the attitude towards them: this is the only way to get that info/this is the way the artist intended for it to be experienced. Either way, I need to be doing something while listening or it's not even worth starting the track.

Yaaaaay, vaccine!

Being in the classroom full-time, I felt SO LIGHT and CAREFREE when I hit that two-week mark. Not that getting COVID is an absolute impossibility, but it sure feels good to know that my chances of getting sick from a student (or the reverse, getting a student sick) are very, very low.

Congrats on getting fully vaccinated! So far, I’m feeling better after the first shot. Hoping the second shot will be alright.

Yay vaccine and saving the planet!!!

I can only listen to podcasts when I'm doing something else--walking, cleaning, driving. I cannot just sit still and listen to anything. So I don't listen to any audiobooks--I only read and I'm fine with that.

Anyway, I hope all of you are utilizing the library and slowly taking apart Amaz*n brick by brick with me.

ALWAYS.

Libby's amazing, especially for the audiobooks (I had Audible for a time, but gave it up quickly because the pricing structure wasn't worth it). I recommend it to so many patrons!
